Valentine's Week- JoJo.

Mama says we're all at the golden age when we all get along and the whining and tantrums are at a minimum (at least compared to normal). It's right about this time that she starts thinking about having another baby. To be honest, she's never had a kid reach 21 months and not be pregnant. I'm 19 months now. Mama says the only thing keeping us from getting a new baby is common sense.
Henry says he's ready for another little sister. He's been very patient with me and likes to read me books. When he asked mama if we could have another baby, mama says you need a boy and a girl to make that kind of decision. Henry said "No problem. I'm a boy and you're a girl." But mama said papa got the final say.
Henry was looking pretty shaggy, so she gave Henry a haircut. Henry asked for a mohawk, so mama did her best without being too ridiculous. It's still pretty ridiculous.
But mama says we can cut or color our hair or where whatever we want so long as it's not permanent, offensive or harmful. I can't wait to dye my eyebrows pink.
Mama saw this idea for Valentines on Pinterest (the biggest internet timesuck since facebook). The end result turned out great despite having a hard time getting Henry and June to pose.
Goof.
Stinker. (It is worth noting that Henry signed and assembled 45 of these cards. That's dedication.)
Cheeseball.
I didn't make Valentine's so I wasn't subjected to the torture.
Mama found an easel up in the attic that Aunt Katie scored for $5 five years ago and has been put away until everyone was of age. We set it up and it is nice!
June got straight to drawing. Up top are people. That little thing on the bottom is a unicorn. (Can't you see by the horn?)
Mama wrote some words, but June was not satisfied with how she spelled "papa." So she wrote it herself on the left- "pop." She also wrote "June," "Mom," and took a couple stabs at "Toesa." (Tessa)
This is Ariel from the Little mermaid. She has orange hair, a long veil and a brightly colored dress. (Which reminds me, June is currently obsessed with the Dolly Parton song "Coat of Many Colors." She has the book and keeps asking mama to make her a coat of many colors. If you have any scraps of fabric in pink, red, or purple (June's request), save them for us.)
We always say we're not going to celebrate Valentine's Day, but mama is a sucker for theme food and once she caught wind that BoJangles was making the "best heart-shaped biscuits in town," there was no chance we weren't going. They were bo-berry bisuits, which is southern for all-natural, I'm sure. We had to wait for them to finish baking and it was worth it. A fresh bo-berry biscuit is like nothing else.
Mama also got creative with the waffle maker and made heart-shaped waffles.
I ate the strawberries first.
As did Henry.
June, as usual, refused to eat anything.
And, because we don't celebrate (obviously), mama also whipped up a cake she heard about on the radio. It's called a Hummingbird Cake, and supposedly it's a standard southern cake, full of all the things a hummingbird would like- like pecans, pineapple and bananas. It even had homemade cream cheese frosting. And it was 3 layers tall. It was delicious.

  2. OH my. Hummingbird cake is the best. There's a little cafe near my first arch job down in Indy that had "The Cake". I loved it. Still do. :) Send me a piece. ;)
    Love, Meg
