Why is JoJo so happy?
Because Grandma and Grandpa Seibert are in town! They came down for Junie's birthday and are our first guests over the next 2 months. (This time of year all the northerners flock down to South Carolina for some respite from the winter.)
After weeks of asking, "Am I 4 now?" June finally made it to February 28th. She was very excited to open some great presents that included a new dress from the Coopers and wings and a crown from the Seiberts. And that belt is one of mama's headbands.
The birthday girl spent the day playing with her new princess themed toys.
And had a mid-day outfit change into her new ballerina outfit from Grandma Seibert and new sparkly shoes from us.
We headed to Henry's school to eat lunch and visit one of the many statues that dot South Carolina.
Then it was home to work on June's birthday cake.
Here's the finished product. A Polly Princess. (Mama chose to make June a small cake and then a german chocolate cake for the rest of us. Woo!)
While mama worked hard on the cake, June was not quite so sure about it. (But check out the ham she's giving the camera before she saw the cake.)
I think everyone liked it.
After supper, we all gathered around the computer to look at some pictures of babies. (Update your blog, Uncle Kevin!)
We hit our first major 4 year old roadblock when mama had the gall to ask June to eat one bite of her supper. We were eating a peanut bok choy stir-fry. But don't feel bad that mama was making June eat weird food. What June was throwing a fit over was a single green bean. And she and mama fought over that green bean for three meals (and one early bedtime when June had to be locked into her room because she kept coming out and screaming). Finally, June choked down that green bean and all was right with the world.
Just in time for Mexican train domino night, which mama and Grandma attended in full sari.
I'm with June on the green bean. Someone taking care of me and my sister when I was about 4 made me eat green beans, and I still hate them.
