It's official- there are too many Turner grandkids to do any kind of planned activity that doesn't involve free play in a confined area.
We tried to meet up with Aunt Katie and the Columbus crew at the Columbus Zoo, and for some reason, that Tuesday turned out to be the busiest day of the year.
We made it to the petting zoo and June had a great time combing the goats with Sadie. But as soon as we left that area, I insisted on pulling the wagon even though it was very crowded. Mama and I got in a big fight and we ended up leaving the packed zoo early. We opted instead for a Culvers(!) for some delicious custard. Mama was so overwhelmed with Wisconsin nostalgia and frustration with her children that she broke down crying into her butter burger. Not mama's best day.
A good run and a good nap later, mama got back to her old self and the party continued. Georgie loved sitting on the fire truck, even if sometimes a well-meaning older kid would try to push her and she'd land up head-first on the very plush carpet.
Mama said we were not going to be accompanying them to Mister Paul and Miss Suze's wedding. But she did let us decorate their present. I wrote me name and mama tried to help June write hers. In normal June fashion, June exclaimed "No! I'll do it myself!" And she grabbed a crayon and wrote her name (without anyone even telling her the letters to write). Mama made a big deal of it, even after I was quick to point out that the J and the N were backward and her handwriting wasn't very good at all.
