We love February and March because our northern relatives get tired of the dreary winter and come to visit us.
June did some water-color painting while she waited for Grams.
You wouldn't know that Grams was here, because we didn't get any pictures of her. But we played a lot of Mahjong, watched some Clemson baseball, visited the best bakery ever, and spent a morning enjoying Grams' favorite past time- visiting cemeteries. We went to the old Episcopal Church in Pendleton and found the graves of the Calhoun family (of John Calhoun, 7th U.S. Vice President fame, though he's buried in Charleston). Thomas Greene Clemson, John Calhoun's son-in-law and founder of the University, is also buried there. But mama's favorite was General Barnard Bee. A Confederate General who was mortally wounded at Bull Run, he's mostly known for giving General Thomas Jackson the nickname "Stonewall" at the same battle. Interestingly enough, it's not known whether this was a complement or an insult that Stonewall's brigade wouldn't advance.
Mama and Grams could spend all day looking at old graves and finding out all the interesting stories. But we convinced them not to bore us any longer and get us some lunch already!
Henry had Friday off of school, so we had John over for the morning. It was quite productive as mama got the boys to haul branches and sticks down the hill to the road as she pulled them out of the big ivy pile in the yard.
June claimed the playhouse as a pirate ship and declared herself a "Viking ballerina pirate."
We know that Henry lost his tooth when he ate an apple, because it was still there when mama took this picture.
John is so darn sweet.
Mama was going to send John home after lunch, but we all played outside by ourselves (!) so she let him stay longer.
Watch out Viking Pirates!
Henry sent this tank that he made home for PawPaw. He and mama made it from a kit with styrofoam that cuts like real wood! They even got to add nails and screws. We hope you like it, Pawps!
Viking ballerina pirate=awesome!!
