Welcome to the new blog!- Georgiana.

Welcome to our new blog. It only took 3 and a half months for mama to recognize me officially as a member of the blogging family. I think it was 8 months after June was born before henryturner.blogspot.com became henryandjuneturner.blogspot.com.

Let's pick up where we left off. Why was mama scrubbing the grout in the shower with a toothbrush and papa mopping the floors at 1am?

Because Sadie was coming! And she brought along Unkie Adam, Aunt Katie, and Baby Dash (or "Ash" as Junie calls him). They got in around 4am on Wednesday morning, after opting to drive all night to miss traffic.

Grams and PawPaw got in around noon and GG and GG came at 1pm. (They came after a two day visit to the Biltmore. Mama is so jealous!) GG couldn't wait to get her hands on me!

Mama's favorite and least favorite part of Thanksgiving is cooking. She gets to hand three kids off and spend all day in the kitchen. The problem is that she usually overdoes it and after the third day, she just gives up and tells people to eat leftovers or order a pizza.

In an effort to make it a truly Southern Thanksgiving, mama tried a lot of new recipes. This is the cabbage and green tomato chow chow. We ate it over the brats that Grams brought down from Ohio. She also made a pretty wicked edamame hummus. It might not be southern, but it tasted great. After everyone went to bed, mama made a Paula Dean Bourbon Pecan Pie and realized she only had one pie pan. (Luckily, Miss Kerri covered for her and loaned us two extras so she could make a Paula Dean pumpkin pie. It has cream cheese in it- We love you, Paula.)

On Wednesday night, we ate a birthday cake (chocolate cake with white icing, at Henry's request) and had a little party for Henry and Sadie. I like this shot of the flying Lite Brite.

On Thursday morning, mama got up early to start on Thanksgiving dinner. But only after a yummy breakfast. Psst- the pastry on the left might be homemade, but the rolls are from a can.

On to the turkey. Mama wants to start a new tradition with the turkey. She started it in the brine and injected her favorite mix of turkey seasoning, hot sauce and beer into it and put it in a pot to sit overnight. then she carried the very heavy pot down to Miss Juliet's house because we were out of room in our refrigerator. Maybe it was the beer mama drank when making the brine, but she thought it was hysterical and declared it the new Thanksgiving Turkey Trot.

(We want to give Miss Juliet a special shout-out for not only loaning us room in her fridge, but also providing accommodations for GG and GG and Grams and Pawps over the Thanksgiving holiday. Thank you, thank you, thank you!)

While mama did her cooking, Dash and I had a little talk about how unfair it is that we don't get any turkey.

Every year there's talk about including the kids in special dinners. Mama always protests and deliberately times the meal so that it falls right in the middle of nap time. All of the kids will refuse to eat all the food anyway. So to make it special for us this year, she made the kids their own turkey dinners. And even though it consisted of cheese, PB&J, apples, and oranges, June and Sadie still refused to eat it.

We forgot to take a picture of the meal, but I've got to say, it looked pretty good. Especially because mama broke down this year and bought a ham. Good news, Coopers, mama has finally come to terms with the fact that no one likes turkey as much as she does and that they'd really just prefer the ham.

And isn't GG a good sport for posing with the turkey leg?

On Friday morning, mama spent two hours putting together a pretty mean grits and collard green casserole that had little indentations with eggs cooked inside. Delicious. And she even made her own sauce to pour over the barbecue we had that night! Phew. And then she rested.
